Scientists have discovered that this unhealthy food can help you shed pounds. You just have to pay attention to a few things

Pasta is a favorite dish around the world. Despite being so tasty, noodles have a really bad reputation since they are mostly made up of (evil) carbohydrates. Paired with an oily or creamy sauce, pasta has always been thought to pack on the pounds - up until now!

It's finally happened... Pasta fans, this one's for you: A study done in Italy with 20,000 healthy people has shown that eating spaghetti and its relatives does not lead to weight gain. In fact, the opposite is true: Consuming pasta can help you lose weight!

At least that is what the author of the study, George Pounis, from the "Istituto Neurologico Mediterraneo“ in Sora, Italy is claiming. "People who want to lose weight often cut pasta from their diets. But our data indicates that is a mistake." This is too good to be true, right?

Of course, there is a catch: Pasta is best for you when it is consumed with fish, olive oil, vegetables, or garlic. Meat sauce, bacon, or cream are still contributors to weight gain and should be avoided by pasta lovers who want to remain svelte.

And you should also pay attention to your portion size. The largest portion of pasta eaten by the healthy study participants was less than 1 cup. Pasta was just a small part of their diet, which consisted largely of fruit and vegetables.

You could also substitute whole grain noodles instead of the traditional semolina noodles for an extra dose of fiber. They should keep you fuller, longer. It's important to remember to pair your healthy eating with plenty of water and exercise. Long walks, trips up and down the stairs, or an adventurous swim are all great ways to boost your movement. There should be nothing in the way of your beach bod - not even your favorite pasta dish!
